Carson Daly: Holiday Tipping Tips!

It’s officially the holiday season, so it’s time to start thinking about gifts for family, friends, and co-workers.  It’s also good manners to tip people a little extra for certain goods and services.

If you’re like me, you have NO idea how much to tip or what’s an appropriate gift for people like your UPS delivery person or your daughter’s math tutor, so luckily we have a list of hints for you to check out!

The lovely people at CNN Money break everything down into nice little categories for us!

Child Care

  • Babysitter: One night’s pay, plus a small gift from the child
  • Nanny: One week to one month’s pay, plus a small gift from the child
  • Daycare Provider: $20-$70 each, plus a small gift from the child
  • Teachers, Coaches & Tutors: A small gift from the child

Home & Car Care

  • Housekeeper: One week’s pay or more, depending on how long they’ve worked for you
  • Garbageman: $15-$20 each (I don’t think I’ve ever even SEEN my gardener!)
  • Parking Attendant: $10-$35
  • Gardener: $20-$50
  • Snow Plow Guy: $20-$50 (thank goodness we don’t have to deal with this!)

  • Doorman: $25-$100 each
  • Superintendent/Custodian: $50-$300 (Wait…don’t I already pay him rent every month?)
  • Porter/Handyman: $10-$50

Personal Care

  • Hairdresser: $20-$100 each, plus a small gift
  • Manicurist: $10-$50 each, plus a small gift
  • Personal Trainer: $25 or the cost of one session

Pet Care

  • Dog Groomer: Small gift
  • Dog walker or Pet sitter: Cost of 1-2 week’s pay

Delivery Services

  • Mailman: They can’t accept cash, so a gift under $20 should do the trick
  • UPS or FedEx guy: A gift under $25 (This one I get…you HAVE to tip the person who’s delivering all your heavy gifts!)
  • Paper Carrier: $15-$25 for daily delivery, $5-$15 for weekend delivery

Okay, I agree with most of these, but really? I have to give my landlord MORE money? I draw the line there! What do you think about this list…did we miss anyone? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
