[Music Video Premiere] Far East Movement Get Us High L.A. Style With ‘Rocketeer’

When [lastfm]Far East Movement[/lastfm] performed at our AMP’s Switch Party at Cinespace last month, one of our favorite songs was “Rocketeer.” And it’s no surprise why: featuring the tender tenor vocals of [lastfm]Ryan Tedder[/lastfm] and co-written by[lastfm] Bruno Mars[/lastfm], ‘Rocketeer’ is a beautiful love song about knowing no boundaries in love.

The video is a heart-wrenching Los Angeles-centric testament of that; it shows the obstacles of a couple who just happen to be interracial. The story unfolds around the gritty, yet gorgeous streets of Downtown Los Angeles, showing the artistic and multiracial youth that populate the city.

Directed by Marc Klasfeld, we see a beautiful ethnically-ambiguouos girl kissing her equally ethnically-ambiguous boyfriend goodbye as she moves to Tokyo for a job.  On their website, Far East Movement describe the video: “We wanted to take yall on a skate thru the Free Wired Downtown LA we livin in that inspires us daily, so the whole video was shot outside our cribs, the art galleries n cafes we chill at, where we

grub, where we party and its filled with different dreamers we know around the way that make up a free wired LA…”

To us, this video is extremely representative of our own lives as Los Angeles residents. We can totally imagine ourselves kicking it in front of that same L.A. taco joint or hitting up the streets of Chinatown for a summer skateboard cruise.
