When will we get to hear a new album from one of the top emcees of all time? That’s what [lastfm]Nas[/lastfm] and Def Jam Records are “negotiating” right now. [lastfm]Nas[/lastfm]’ Lost Tapes Vol. 2 is finished and ready to be released, but Def Jam hasn’t put it out yet.
And [lastfm]Nas[/lastfm] wants to know why – right now!
An email purportedly sent by [lastfm]Nas[/lastfm] to the label has surfaced online and [lastfm]Nas[/lastfm] sounds more than a little upset.
“With all do respect to you all, [lastfm]Nas[/lastfm] is NOBODY’s slave,” he starts. “This is not the 1800’s, respect me and I will respect you.”
He goes on to say:
I have a fan base that dies for my music and a RAP label that doesn’t understand RAP.
Which is a pretty bold statement aimed at a label that released records from [lastfm]Run-DMC[/lastfm], [lastfm]LL Cool J[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Jay-Z[/lastfm] – the latter of which served as the label’s president for a short time.
But his closing paragraph elucidates his point pretty clearly:
You don’t get another Nas recording that doesn’t count against my deal….PERIOD! Keep your bull—- $200,000.00 fund. Open the REAL budget. This is a New York pioneers ALBUM, there ain’t many of us. I am ready to drop in the 4th quarter. You don’t even have —- coming out! Stop being your own worst enemy. Let’s get money!
Is [lastfm]Nas[/lastfm] right? Are we ready for a new [lastfm]Nas[/lastfm] album?
